I got the link to your site from
http://www.extropy.org/exi-lists/extropians/2417.html.
At least one major topic appeared to missing. The
brain fingerprinting info looked good, however. In
fact, this was a major topic of discussion at a panel
on which I was a participant at the WesterCon Science
Fiction Conference held over the 4th holidays in Los
Angeles. It was also discussed extensively on the
Extropy site <extropy.org> shorting after 9/11.
Topic missing: Drug interrogation.
Maybe it was there under a different heading, but I
didn't see it at first glance. From Neolithic times
this has historically been one of the significant
threats to cognitive freedom. The native Indians of
South America were well aware of the use of
scopalomine for mind control. More recently, a major
article in the local newspapers some years ago
described how criminal gangs in some major S. American
cities used scopalomine to interrogate kidnapping
victims.
Typically, a businessman would awaken in a cab with no
memory of the prior three days. On arriving home, he
would discover all his valuables gone, his bank
accounts empty, his stocks and bonds sold, etc.
Armand Condo, who ran the 1970's tax resistance group
YHPA (Your Heritage Protection Association), once gave
a talk at a local libertarian dinner club in which he
- a scientologist - described how L. Ron Hubbard had
allegedly discovered and uncovered a major drug
interrogation / mind control project run by the U.S.
government, using WWII vets in VA facilities as guinea
pigs.
According to Condo, Hubbard had volunteered to council
vets suffering from "shell shock" in the VA system at
the end of the war. Very quickly he found a curious
anomoly: many of the vets had the same dream.
Not a similar dream, but one with identical details,
of being interrogated while restrained and drugged by
doctors with German accents. The details corollated
so well that Hubbard was totally convinced that these
had not been dreams at all.
Thus, once he had the resources, with the success of
Scientology, and once the Freedom of Information Act
had been passed, he assigned a large team of about
thirty scientologists to sent out an endless stream of
FOI requests to all the various bureaus that might
have information relating to any such experiments in
their files.
This went on for quite some time with no results at
all, until one of the officials in a critical position
was temporarily incapacitated, at which point one of
the requestors received a letter from the temporary
replacement to the effect that ~"they would be
delighted to forward copies of the material requested,
but DUE TO THE LARGE VOLUME of the files, they felt
that they must first verify that the requestor was in
fact able and willing to pay for the substantial
copying costs."
Needless to say, they were quick to reply, and
received an entire room full of files documented the
experiments on GIs by doctors brought from the German
mind control program.
We know, of course, of the CIA and coordinated
Canadian spooks' efforts along these lines using LSD.
At least, we know of the tiny part of that program
that has leaked so far. Given just how effective even
a (literally) Neolithic drug like scopalomine can be
in allowing for traceless interrogation, is it at all
safe to assume that systematic targetted
interrogations are not being carried out today, both
abroad and here in the U.S.?
Forget targetting alleged terrorists. What a huge
advantage such information could be for insider
trading, to give just one example. The boss's
secretary goes out one Friday night, wakes up the next
morning late with an awesome hangover, with no idea
that she gave up the whole company to whoever - CIA,
FBI, NSA, PLA Chinese operatives... The technology is
cheap and available.
