I've been wondering how those who extol the market's unparalleled success
in getting things done faster and cheaper and better account for the lack
of a free enterprise space flight system superior to NASA's.
Could it be that if there were greatly-reduced-cost private launch systems
on the market, that someone could use such a system as an 'amateur ICBM' and
settle private international scores? I can see why governments would want to
regulate.
Additionally, if there was a free for all that saw numerous satellite
launch companies, then the amount of items in low earth orbit may increase
significantly.
I read somewhere that this could eventually increase the probability of
collision to such a point nothing could get through - and we'd have imprisoned
ourselves on earth! I don't know how much credibility there is in that, but
might it be wise to do an orbital clean up of junk form time to time?
