The usual trio that I bring up when anybody asks:
http://www.erps.org/ - the one I work with; the most cash-strapped of
the trio, but getting some results
http://www.xcor.com/ - Doug Jones's organization; doing well enough that
even CNN has taken them seriously
http://www.armadilloaerospace.com/ - run by John Carmack down in Texas;
making good progress as well
If you'd like to help, ERPS is always looking for volunteers and
(tax-deductible) donations. I can't speak for the other two, but I
wouldn't be surprised if they'd be willing to accept certain forms of
assistance too.
