>An interesting look at Globalization by a former Chairman of the
>council of economic advisers under Clinton, World Bank Vice
>President and co-winner of the 2001 Nobel prize in economics.
>Although I've just started this book I've already learned a few
>things about the IMF, WTO, and the World bank.
>And although the author and I are bound to disagree about some
>things (he supports the idea of a world government (gag!)) This is
>clearly a valuable book for those interested in the subject matter
>More when I've finished it.
Okay I've finished it, and I have to give this book the highest
praise a free market advocate can, it was worth every penny I paid
for it, in fact it was a bargain.
I learned a great deal about the IMF, WTO, and World Bank, and
their failures/problems, and free markets and their limitations.
His best insight, that free markets only exist in theory, and the
free markets in the real world are a different entity. (his proof
won him the Nobel) In free markets in the real world governments
can actually (theoretically) improve market efficiency.
A definite must read for free market advocates, fundamentalists and
Socialists alike.
Could have done without the unsubstantiated call for development at
the end.
