Good points about applications. The question is whether a gesture
interface would be used all the time or just some - if it is just some
of the time it might not be worth the trouble. I think it would be great
for some CGI; to actually handle objects quickly is important - but
there is still a need for precision tools, so there would have to be
other controls. One problem with the system in the film is likely that
it would be tiring to use for a long time (not an issue in the film, but
could be for real life applications; still, I could use the upper body
exercise :-)

I almost missed it. Overall, there were some nice visual tricks in the
film. A bit like AI.

Well, they bought the system cheap from Genosis - after the Jedi Council
moved in, they declared the droid factory an occupational hazard and
closed it. So the genosians sold it to Lexus.
