This was never used domestically, and the network has been all SS7
for many years now.
Blueboxing only ever was of interest on international lines (in
particular those within the toll-free prefix) that hadn't been
converted to SS7 yet. Initially this included North America and
later shifted to ever more exotic third-world places.
The only inband action I vaguely recall was on some switches where
a debugging mode had been left enabled that you could enter with
fourth column touch tones ('D' I think) and that you could use to
break/listen in to other calls. This was quickly disabled when the
word hit the street.
