Since one of my chores as a child was dusting the family furniture, with
"Pledge"(tm) furniture polish, saying the Pledge of Allegiance made me
empathize with this guy named Allegiance (Al for short) who also got
stuck with the dusting chores, and wondered if he had allergies too...

Okay, I feel the same way (it was, after all, written by a national
socialist anyways) but think the pledge should be to the Constitution.
Here's my proposal:

I pledge my dedication to the Constitution,
of the United States of America.
To defend the republic it founded,
against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
To trust my fellow Americans, with
the rights that birth naturally endows.
To exercise my rights, and fulfill the
duties that such power demands.
To accept responsibility, for my own
individual actions.
We are one nation,
of states and individuals,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
