Well, in all respect, you picked a rotten time of year to be in the
woods. I usually don't go to the camp at all until the end of June, as
black fly season, and the peak of the mosquito season, are in may and
june. After that the various woodland pools and bogs fed by local
snowmelt which are ubiquitous as bug breeding grounds have dried up and
the insect populations drop to very managable levels. No-see-ums are not
to be found. The only real major insect events thereafter are the annual
two day ladybug breeding frenzy, which can be extremely annoying around
anything white or bright red, and the annual Monarch Butterfly
migration, which is nice so long as you aren't a moose turd (they seem
to go bonkers for those).
