Ignored is the actual fact that airline seats, class for class, are
approximately 20% narrower than they were 10-20 years ago, with a
similar loss in legroom as well. I used to love to fly TWA's L-1011's on
flights from Seattle to Boston and back. Coach seats were as large as
First Class seats today, and legroom was the same difference.
Don't believe me? Look up old issues of Aviation Week and Space
Technology magazine, which frequently published seating specifications
and diagramed cabin cross sections of airliners as sold to various
airlines.
Expect to see ever narrower seats installed on aircraft, in order to
push more and more of the population into the 'obese' category so as to
vastly increase profits.
