The only problem with that is that the ISI only works through
the "established" publishing circles (scientific clique?).

Early adopters of more advanced technologies (myself, Anders,
to a lesser extent Robert Freitas, Eric Drexler, Ralph Merkle, etc.
[i.e. those who split their efforts into conventional and advanced
venues]) have a higher "citation index" on the web than we do in the
conventional literature.

There is still a huge amount of division between "scientific disciplines"
and that is functioning as a barrier to the relative acceleration
of breakthroughs in nanotechnology. So a better measure of real
progress might be in the bridges of cross-discipline research.
Kartoo could easily be tailored to display that. I'm not sure
the ISI analysis would be as useful.
