Indeed. One of my interesting words of the week is "coppicing".
It refers to the process of deliberate pruning (e.g. of willow trees) which
would appear positively _savage_ to a naive onlooker. *Surely* you must be
trying to *kill* that poor defenseless tree!
But no, it's _stewardship_, and it's how you get a ready supply of springy
tough willow wands and such, because coppicing promotes such growth.
There's a parable here <irony>, but I'm much too urbane and sophisticated to
do more than point that out </irony>.
