Keep in mind, Dossy, that you joined the list shortly before the
eight-per-day limit was begun, so you haven't really experienced any kind
of email deluge. As many of the long-termers on this list can attest to
(myself included), things have gotten out of hand here before. I recall
that even in the relatively short time I have been doing the list admin
(since Oct. 2000) there was one individual, who shall remain nameless, who
used to post up to twenty-five per day, not to mention others who regularly
hit the high teens and low twenties. This virtually drowned out the
majority of other posters on the list.

Consider a conference with a few hundred people, and imagine if one or two
people stood up and talked for hours on end, without letting others get a
word in edgewise. That's what it has been like on this forum in the past,
and the eight-per-day limit is a simple, yet effective way of keeping the
belligerence/prolificity down to a more tolerable level.

You might notice that on any given day on the list, you will now find
around thirty different posters. In past times there have been as low as
five. I would like to think that list quality has risen somewhat since the
revision of the guidelines. Am I right?
