There's an interesting page about this at:
http://www.arclight.net/~pdb/glimpses/valley.html

Some years ago I got the idea that we would all be doing a lot of
shuddering in the future. Some, perhaps the majority of such shuddering
moments would be in response to extremely subtle cues picked up from
some event that day.

Rudy Rucker says he gave himself nightmares from staring at neckar (sp?)
cubes he had tucked into room corners at the ceiling. Perhaps we'll have
shuddering moments after spending some time in a VR which has some
subtle differences from real life. Like maybe where all right angles are
89.99 degrees or something.

I blame cable. I sit down to eat, start flippin' thru the Discovery/TLC
channel set, and always seem to catch the surgery channel at it's bloody
climax, or see siamese twins joined at the head.

I can imagine if your implants are itchy you might have weird dreams
about them.

And I think Greta Van Sustern's new look is downright creepy. Her
previous face had character. This new one seems firmly planted in the
'uncanny valley'.
