You must have missed the first episode. They had wagons, and a budget
with which they purchased items to load them with. We probably didn't see
the wagons much after the beginning due to a couple of them damn near
killing themselves in a wagon wreck shortly after setting out.

They did. Both when equipping their wagons, and later when shopping at
the general store. Hundreds of pounds worth of staples.
