No, no! Not at all! The Spartans were monstrous in many ways,
among them infanticide. I TOTALLY DISPARAGE AND CONDEMN IN THE
STRONGEST POSSIBLE LANGUAGE THE KILLING OF CHILDREN.
I am disappointed, and a little shocked, that no finite number
of times appears to suffice for re-iterating that what one
disapproves of---and what one thinks should be illegal---need
not be the same things at all!
I have made my position on the legality of killing children clear.
In short, I agree with Reason about that: legally, I say *legally*,
children should be regarded as the property of their parents.
Now on to the morality of it all.
Look, were I (heaven forbid!) to die tonight in my sleep, this would
be very bad for me. But I would still be luckier than Jim Meek, my
high school friend who died in a traffic accident at age 16. But
Jim was luckier that the poor seven-year old boy, who made the mad
dash for the door, and almost made it before his murderous bitch of
a mother caught up with him.
But even that seven year old had seven good years! Do you see where
I am going? He was very lucky compared to a baby dying in infancy,
and---supposing that life is worth living even to a baby---that baby
is better off that an aborted fetus. **At least the baby got a few
months!**
And even the aborted fetus got a little runtime! UNLUCKIEST OF ALL
ARE THOSE NEVER BORN! Can't you see that?
Speaking again *not legally*, the parents who killed their 12 year old
are better than those who abort their babies, and those who abort their
babies are better than I am, who am childless, and who has never
rescued anyone from non-existence at all.
Yes, it's easy to see the waste when a seven year old dies. It's harder
to see the waste when a fetus is aborted, but it's an even worse waste.
And hardest of all is understanding and trying to imagine the waste when
someone isn't conceived at all.
Yes, I know that this seems strange. But either you believe that life
is good, and graces those lucky enough to get some, or you don't.
