> "The common good must always come first, whether we like it or not"
This can be said to be analogous to "The good of the many outweigh the good
of the few or the one". As such it is false, our own systems of government
place one person above all others in importance, with people prepared to die
to keep them safe. Were this not so Communism would need a revivalist
movement. There are many examples besides this of how the statement is not
true for our society today but should we aim for it?
I say not, because the majority is not always right. Sometimes what most
people feel or believe is wrong, the common good would demand pampering to
that majority; whereas only through defiance by the minority will change
take place for the better.
