Luddites on the loose...

Well, I'm rather exasperated with the fact that while these groups (like
the Center for Genetics and Society) are continuing to raise money, even
within the ranks of the techno-elite, all that occurs on our side is
mail list discussion and little else. Pro-Act is stillborn, as far as I
can see, and the wishy-washiness seen on this list and elsewhere, the
damnation of extremism and vehement advocacy of any kind (recall that
Eva Peron said, "If not for extremists, nothing would ever get done.")
seen on this list, and the sort of detente rapport building strategy
being advocated by the current staff of Pro-Act demonstrates to me that
there is a need for a group willing to take action at all levels for our
agenda. Since my rants a few weeks ago about a lack of activity at
Pro-Act there has been a stunning silence toward my repeated offers to
do fundraising for Pro-Act.

As a result, I am announcing that I would like to recruit some
volunteers to form an exploratory committee to launch the Center for
Transhuman Development, which will be a political action/grassroots
organizing advocacy group to represent the Transhumanist agenda.

There are two sorts of people we want: People willing to dedicate a
significant portion of their time or a significant amount of money. We
will be following a 'lead, follow, or get out of the way' attitude. If
this announcement is met with a similar silence from the transhumanist
community, I will thereby declare the surrender of the transhumanist
movement to the forces of luddism and get the argument over with once
and for all.
