OK, you're looking for:
Good prospects with a bachelor's.
A field which does not require going to a specialized institution.
Quick rewards in feeling like you've done something useful.
Something somebody with some math/technical aptitude would be good at.
Sounds like engineering to me. Go for something like electrical or
mechanical (with an eye on micro-mechanical).
Bachelor's biotech job tend to be technicians. Professional jobs are for
people who love the work or really want to be rich; there's enormous
committment. Scientific work is for people who love it. Medical
(non-doctor) is a possibility if he likes working with people, but you have
to be able to cope with a lot of loss in that field.
