Yes Vanessa precisely. The first step of being an extropian
or transhumanist is to understand the degree to which the
fabric of "reality" may have been hidden from oneself.
While from time to time we may get dragged into the discussions
of the "soft" reality (e.g. economics or politics), there are
many of us who would seek out the relative certainty of current
physical laws.
It is perhaps important to develop a personal Shermer's scale of
skepticism with regard to any concept presented in our discussions.
I have only suggested that those same technologies that allow lifespan
extension also allow the elimination of the "classical" overpopulation
concerns. (I.e. robust bio- and nano-technologies). In fact for
those who have really studied the problem and technologies it seems
likely that solutions to the over-population problems may be developed
before solutions to the aging population problem.
Carpe diem!
