Movies are, after all, fantasy, entertainment, make-believe, mood-inducing,
transporting ... A.I. did have scenes evoking strange and somber
netherworlds, the near- and further-along-future, and some of those scenes
really were nothing short of stunning. You know, some people like Britney
Spears (they would liked Doris Day or Dinah Shore decades ago). Some people
like Uma Thurman (hmm, would have liked ... Joan Fontaine? Ingrid Bergman?
in the past).

It was like Pinocchio all over again. Sigh.

I've a kind of decorator's appreciation of movies - some movie scenes I saw
in my childhood for the first time still play in my head. I think this is a
common experience for most of us, no? Maybe it was the scene with the
flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz. The music in The Third Man. This
experience is not limited to "good movies" only - e.g., as a child I was
completely enthralled with The Leech Woman (late '50s movie). It introduced
the idea to me of rejuvenation, the return of youth and vitality to a
person, so, okay - with a little greed and murder thrown in for yucks. But,
you know, the mind starts ticking ... where she stops nobody knows.
