Getting back to my comments the other day about Moore's Law contributing
to increased resource utilization efficiency along exponential growth
curves, I note from reading the space.com's headline story about the
Hubble Telescope refitting mission, that the new solar arrays being
installed on Hubble are half the cost, nearly half the size, and yet
produce nearly 20% more power than those installed in 1993. This implies
a doubling period of 4-5 years for space solar power generation
technology, although two datapoints hardly make for proof of an
exponential trend.
