I've used the "ey/em/eir" set off and on, on this list and elsewhere;
it's usually quickly understood by those unfamiliar with it, and since
it's derived from existing plurals there's little chance of getting it
wrong. They even flow pretty well in speech.

I'm surprized no one's mentioned the canonical text that argues
effectively for the need of the things, Hofstadter's "Person Paper":
