Wow, I can't believe I forgot Homeworld. Beyond that, Homeworld completely
changed Real-Time Strategy games - it's in space, and 3d. It got at least
one Game of the Year award, but most of my friends don't like it, as it's
very slow. The ship AI is pretty good, so you often have 20-30 small
fighters flying around and shooting at each other and then having to turn
around. So it IS slow, but I don't mind - it's very pretty to watch, as all
of the ships have really long contrails (so you can find them). I could
probably sit there and watch my fighters changing formations for hours
because of the contrails :)
Definitely a game to check out if you're looking for something new. Just
know that the learning curve is REALLY steep, and you will probably have to
do the fourth (or third, I havn't played for a while) level many, many
times before you pass it. Or cheat.
