Damien Broderick writes, in relevant part:
>Pfizer said it would offer its drugs to low-income elderly
>people for a flat fee of $15 a month for each prescription.
. . .
>Lucky sick old Americans will thus pay only 50% more than everyone in Oz
>for the same drugs. . . . it implies that all
>Pfizer's more well-heeled and younger customers will be paying a hidden
>but regressive levy to cover their corporate generosity. What's the sentiment
>of the house?
How Pfizer shifts its costs does not matter to me, as it concerns only that
company's shareholders. How Australia's politicians shift drug costs should
matter to all their subjects, though, as they does so to a greater degree
(200% more, I suppose) and no doubt with less efficiency.
