This isn't at all clear to me. Consider the possibility that the universe is
a
dangerous place. Advanced technology societies may not wish to
announce their presence. If they are capable of building something
like Robert's proposed M brains, they might be able to do so quickly,
as in a few hundred years. The star would appear to wink out, at
least in geologic time. With sufficiently advanced technology, they
may be able to make theselves nearly invisible. spike
