Very good question. Also the density of the sun is 1.4 times that of water,
just what you'd expect if it were mostly hydrogen considering the enormous
pressure in the interior that compresses things. The Earth, which does have
a iron core is 5.5 as dense as water even though there is much less pressure
in the interior, so if the sun is mostly Iron why isn't it 20 times as dense?
