Miriam of course is correct.
The primary purpose of life is to survive. The secondary purpose
is to evolve (or become extinct).
The problem is that for *almost* all species, the priorities are
skewed such that the primary purpose of life is to evolve rather
than survive. This results in Tom Kirkwood's "Disposable Soma
Theory of Aging" -- unfortunately.
