Subject fields in email messages bother me in general. They are created by
humans to aid in categorizing the content of the message. When a
conversation thread is spawned, there may be several in the one message, and
that's when the Subject line becomes practically useless.
I have saved about 10 years worth of email (various formats) in the dream
that one day someone, maybe me, will create software to match whole email
messages together and identify quotes as links to other messages. Then the
software will merge all these responses together and render them in one big
message. With intelligent auto-categorization software, the threads could be
extracted into their own "conversational message" instead of being strewn
across several email messages.
Has anyone done any work on this?
cheers,
Simon
