Thanks for providing a translation and historical referrence to
this quote, I wish more writers would follow this practice.
Although with three years of high school French, I was able to
puzzle out the general meaning. ;)
I always thought comedian George Carlin made an interesting point.
He said in America we like to think we were founded by a bunch of
free thinkers, but the reality is that many of the founders were
religious fundamentalists who couldn't get along with their
neighbors.
As Extropians we realize that adults are responsible for their own
choices, and should not be confined by the fears and hatreds of the
past.
