Regarding Darwin, Calif: the following URLs from
mapquest--open them in separate windows for a
side-by-side comparison--are instructive.

One of the factors which I find appealing is the
abundant solar energy resource available in the dry,
bright Mojave. Note at least two close at hand
south-facing east-to-west slopes for siting of
collector arrays.
