In what I consider to be a rather stunning result, scientists at
Memorial Sloan-Kettering have demonstrated that new blood vessels
in tumors are actually generated from circulating precursor
endothelial cells derived from bone marrow stem cells. They
further demonstrate that antibodies to two receptors (VEGFR1
and VEGFR2) will block the recruitment of the precursor cells
and prevent tumor growth.
