 Starting today, at the Agenda
conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., I.B.M. will begin distributing 75,000 copies
of a 39-page paper written by Mr. Horn, in which he calls the current version
of the complexity problem the industry's "next grand challenge."

Useless hypotheses, etc.:
consciousness, phlogiston, philosophy, vitalism, mind, free will, qualia,
analog computing, cultural relativism, GAC, Cyc, Eliza, cryonics, individual
uniqueness, ego, human values, scientific relinquishment

We move into a better future in proportion as science displaces superstition.
