Apologies to Mr Coyote, it was unpleasant of me to put it that way. Still,
I hope people noticed that I was making a general point, and that I
carefully deleted Mr Coyote's name from the attribution line to try to
avoid making it a personal attack.

And while I'm in self-flagellatory mood: an off-list message from someone
else commented today that in recent posts he'd `noted a somewhat more
fearsome and egoistic persona than comes out in your books.' This is a
troubling thought; all too often, it's true, I allow myself sarcastic
liberties on this list and others that would not be acceptable at the
dinner table (although I've been known to do it there too).

I'll try to keep a sock in it. :)
