We're not talking about a false vacuum though, merely the conversion of
of Earth or nearby body into to a strangelet/singularity. On cosmic scale
such events are inconsequential, but locally they still totally cook your
goose, man, like, wow.
Of course they did estimate the occurence of such event, and it found to
be sufficiently low to not worry about it too much.
