It would be a very tiny car that only used half a ton of steel. My Volvo
weighs in at almost two tons (but gets good gas mileage). Point taken
though.
However, the only gas guzzler I own is a big truck that would be nigh
useless if it wasn't a gas guzzler. Torque and horsepower isn't free. The
only possibly legitimate distinction I can see would be the "luxury SUV"
class of vehicle, which frequently has the big engine but lacks many of the
other things that make a big engine usable for something. "Big hat, no
cattle" in a sense.
