With control of the US congress teetering on the brink and a weak president
with a vaporous "mandate", I think there's a good chance a bill like this
won't be able to make it through to passage. Whether it can be stopped will
depend on whether the developer community, public interest groups like the
IFF, IfJ and ACLU and small and medium-size software companies can band
together to do effective lobbying. It's time for the Internet to prove its
effectiveness as a tool for social and political organization.
