Not really. Renton is, from my experience living in Seattle, the battle
ground between the heavily black populated Rainier Valley and the
Camaro-driving white redneck types (a high number being transplants from
southern states and who generally work at Boeing or Boeing dependent
industries) who live in and south of Renton. They don't have the
geographic advantage that Mercer Island does in insulating itself from
population growth in the Rainier Valley expanding outward. At least
thats the way it was back in 1995. I can only imagine that pressures
have grown since then.
