A backup copy is a static image, not a process, and is hence not you but a
you-potential. As soon you reactivate it, while you're still around,
there's a fork, and there are two distinct individuals. Under very
synthetic, contrieved circumstances you can maintain n copies in perfect
synch (deterministic process with identical input; trajectory forcing), in
such circumstances there is only one process, albeit occuring in different
places, and there is no fork.
You can also heal small forks with trajectory forcing, but it's
nontrivial.
