Even though many on this list have issues with the
very institutions of "nation-states", I'm sure many of
you would find this link interesting...
http://www.geocities.com/us_int/
It is a central site with links to other sites on the
same subject: the notion of adding other regions of
the world, particularly English-speaking regions,
voluntarily join the United States as member states.
It's definitely worth a little idle web browsing. For
example, an analysis (by Canadians) of Canada's
historical reason to exist (or lack thereof), is kind
of fun. Also interesting is the notion that the
British Empire declined primarily because England
refused to "federalize" (allow its colonies to join as
full-fledged and represented parts of England itself,
which is arguably what the American colonies
originally wanted...), and that this can be rectified
by having the UK join the US under the Constitution as
several member states (England itself, due to
population, getting to be up to four states).
It reminds me a little of "The Diamond Age".
