1949/1950 National Geographic ads

Some of the pictures in the ads were thought provoking. One ad
featured "Revolution on a desktop!". It featured the top of a desk, with
an electronic dictaphone on it. Another ad included a photograph of a
yellow car called a Studebacker Land Cruiser! Yet another ad claimed
"Freezing Food is Fun!". It seemed having a freezer was quite a novelty
back in 1949. Some of the articles had pictures that would be judged
politically incorrect nowadays such as, a smiling woman with a cute live
chinchilla on her shoulder, but with chinchilla pelts tacked up beside
her. There was an ad for a stereo camera starring Jane Wyman, who I
believe was Ronald Reagan's first wife. The best ad featured a rosy
cheeked family entering a home bearing presents. The smallest child was
excitedly yelling "Merry Christmas Grandma ... we came in our new
PLYMOUTH". There was no picture of the car itself, but car ownership
was just becoming common back in '49.
