        thank you for so eloquently expressing what i have so viscerally
felt. indeed, sometimes i suspect that my very abhorrence of being
controlled _by_ my monkey-dna stems from the instincts coded _in_ my
monkey-dna.

        that said, however, i do wonder if it is this very pessimism that
is the product of my evolutionary heritage. perhaps my mistake lies in
collapsing history into the present? perhaps i can see what i am apart
from what _caused_ me? perhaps it is only when i assume that my
particular genetic program is the _only_ coherent system to give rise to
the things i treasure -- it is only then that i feel the things that i
abhor also follows inevitably.
