Oh, where did I put my morning coffee? yawn. Let's see what's on the
extropian list today. Singularity? Well, somebody has got to make it
happen.
Today, my cat, quasar, strutted the spike while trying to escape once again
off the living room patio. No way! I caught him just in time. My fish
(proudly named Blue because he is blue). Blue's not terribly interested in
anything other than my fingernail tapping on the rim of the bowl and
certainly has the lack of interest in waiting for Godot.
We had a rolling blackout in Los Angeles yesterday, I suppose that's a
weeny singularity, but the surge certainly came when least expected,
although the news reports told us how to prepare for it -- just in case it
occurred.
If we fail to solve the software complexity problem, if we never figure out
how to automate the solution of large, distributed problems, what then. If
progress levels off, Blue's in business and Quasar never knew what was on
the other side of the patio fence.
The architecture of the Internet served an amazing purpose. Like most
building structures its foundation becomes weakened by newly produced
mechanisms. It could evolve by rescripting its nervous system or maybe the
architecture is simply too outdated. It would have to be a mighty
adaptable seed to be planted in a potentially barren womb.
