I just rudely if frolicsomely denounced Hal for lack of googlitude, which
was unjust as well as absurd. Clearly he was enacting for us the experience
of a reader encountering in a novel a barrage of baffling references to an
unfamiliar part of recent political history. In a situation like that, you
just don't stop to check with google. (In fact I *do* tend to hit the EB or
dictionary, but I usually read novels and other books at home a few paces
away from my reference materials.)
I also dropped some clunkers of my own, in my haste:
>>Who's the MPLA?
>PLA is always People's Liberation Army. In this case, the Popular Movement
for the Liberation of Angola.
Obviously I should have written:
< PLA is often People's Liberation Army. In this case, though, it stands
for the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola. >
