The short story... A guy got Eliza, hooked it up to an AOL instant messenger
account, and waited for random people to come and talk to it. The chatters
don't know that they are talking to a computer. The results are at this
site:
Have a look at the various chat transcripts - click on the spelled-out
numbers further down the page, eg: "forty-three".
After reading forty-three, I had to wipe the snot of my face that came out
while I laughed... now my throat really hurts. It's the funniest thing I've
seen in a long time! Very rude, but the real human in the chat is a very
funny person in his own right. Don't lend him your pets.
I will never, ever consider the Turing test in any way a useful measure of
anything, after reading these. Wow.
Also, it's a pretty interesting peek into what people actually talk about on
AOL. Bizarre.
btw... much content that people may consider innapropriate for minors. Maybe
ok for miners.
