A question for our astroengineering enthusiasts:
I'm working on a roleplaying scenario right now which also is an
attempt at a fairly realistic description of space
industrialisation. Anyway, I would like to calculate transfer orbits
from Earth to the asteroid Orpheus (and possibly other NEOs), so my
players could start planning the business part of asteroid mining as
well as ship schedules. While a Hohman orbit might be suitable for the
first ship to the asteroid, later trips would be able to employ more
thrust as asteroid water becomes available as propellant. Is there any
software around which solves Lambert's problem, does patched conics or
otherwise could help calculating deltav and travel times?
