George Adamski's mid-1950s flying saucers were powered by wonderful
crystals, as I dimly recall, and Desmond Leslie's version of the Indian
sacred texts (he co-wrote FLYING SAUCERS HAVE LANDED with Adamski) has
vimanas doing likewise. This probably derived from Blavatsky and Theosophy,
so it must go back at least to the end of the 19th century.
