Cloned Gaur dies of infection

Advanced Cell Technologies successfully cloned a gaur (a nearly extinct
wild oxen species, the members of which weigh a ton), but it died of a
bacterial infection a couple of days later. This cloning is especially
interesting for two reasons: One: it was an endangered species, so using
cloning to bring it back is satisfying in itself as well as good publicity
for the technology; two: the gaur was cloned from skin cells frozen eight
years ago.

The new issue of Wired, out in a few days, will have a cover story on
cloning by Brian Alexander (who did the piece on Natasha Vita-More and
Extro-4 a year ago). I've seen an advance copy and the story looks good.
The message: human clones are almost inevitable in the next 12 months, if
they don't exist already.

Onward!
