I havent been following this thread too closely. Did someone
already suggest this solution?

There is a larger box containing a smaller box and the smaller
box has the lock on the inside, and so can only be locked by
someone on the inside. The hinges for the smaller box are inside,
so that the lid opens inward. So the smaller box, when locked,
in a sense, contains the entire universe except the space where
the person with the key is located. So the key to each box can
be used to unlock each without time travel or paradox. spike
