Now, if only I can be right about our having the ability to deny the
governments of the world excessive power over us and you are only right about
immortality or extreme long life being close upon us.
I understand that encryption is only one of the tools that will be
brought to bear against governments. Consider this; for all our efforts we
can't even control the Mexican-American border. And yes, I realise that is
largely a political decision we can't seem to make.

Well, that particular example is due to a couple of things (IMHO):
a) The border problem (smuggling of drugs and illegal immigrants) is not
considered serious enough by the constituency to warrant the draconian
measures needded to solve it. If you had armed gangs conducting raids across
the border into the US, things would change faster than you can say Pershing.
b) Our government is not very efficient when it comes to imposing controls
over the nation. No million strong KGB here, thank Ghu.
