I think the key words were "no longer need to ask..."
The idea isn't to alter gender but to render it unimportant; as unimportant
as the color of one's eyes.
Perhaps in future, one's gender will be a private matter - private like
one's bank account number. (Just think how nicely that would skrew up
marketing demographics.)
